Operational Tips
#1 - How to Recruit High Calibre Team Members
As the Spa industry grows, finding and securing the right team members for your Spa can be challenging at times. By being professional, organised and having clear and simple interviewing procedures, you can ensure you make a great impression on the best applicants.
Check and ensure you have these systems to help you attract and
secure the best applicants possible, effectively and efficiently.
- Applicants are much more web-savvy then ever before and will most likely look at your website or Google search for your business. Ensure your Employment page is appealing by being simple and friendly, with photos, team member benefits and position requirements.
- When applicants ring to make inquiries, ensure your Spa Coordinator/Receptionist is fully informed about the position requirements and can handle enquiries efficiently. If they go through an HR department, are they fast and flexible?
- Make it easy for applicants to apply, with the option of faxing, emailing, posting or dropping resumes off personally. This will ensure you maximise your response.
- If you have had a considerable response but are having difficulty deciding who to interview, begin with short phone interviews before making a decision on who to invite for a formal interview. This can cut the process time down.
- Impress applicants when they arrive for an interview with a professional Company Information Pack available for them to read. This helps them to understand the Company culture, know what's expected of them and whether it matches what they are looking for. The information pack can include the Business Mission, Position Description, Team Member Benefits, Remuneration Overview and Treatment Menu. Information Packs saves valuable time having to explain the business and ensures you provide clarity on all areas of the position. This can save misunderstandings down the track.
- Including an Application Form for applicants to
fill out gathers vital information and saves you having to ask a series
of questions. - In the interview, ensure you clearly explain the remuneration package you are offering and what it is based upon - such as education, skills, performance, retail and rebooking. Be sure to clearly explain the type of behaviour you reward and how they can grow within the company.
- Make sure there are plenty of signals that this is a happy and inclusive place to work. You may have promoted the 'happy team' in the advertisement - is this how it looks? Ensure they are greeted warmly, offered a glass of water or herbal tea on arrival and given all forms to fill in.
- When interviewing, use an Interview Review Form, so that not only are you again demonstrating the Spa's professionalism, you are also following the same procedures for each applicant and basing your decision on merit.
